Why use a location manager?
Finding a location is one thing, it's quite another to ensure a location shoot goes smoothly.
There are usually permissions to be obtained: from the owner of the location, and often the local authority and the police. For most of the general public, filming or photography in a public area is an unusual event, and both care and patience can often be required when negotiating the right to stage a location shoot. With a film shoot, there is also the problem of finding somewhere to park the ‘circus’.
Location filming in general, and in London in particular, is beset with pitfalls to catch the unwary. Suppliers can be unreliable, location owners can be difficult and briefs change. The Location Manager is responsible for everything that happens on location (even if it’s not their fault). Unfortunately there is no magic wand that you can wave to make the process easier, however our experienced Location Managers can help smooth the process and take away unnecessary concerns.
Our Location Managers have many years experience of getting it right, so please contact us without obligation, for advice or a quote for your next assignment.
Location Managers for Stills
Location X Location Managers have many years experience dealing with all aspects of stills production and have developed a nose for likely problems which allows them to intervene before they become critical. We usually know for example, when to ‘wing it’ and when full permissions must be sought.
A good Location Manager should remove all the logistics headaches (accommodation, car hire, transport, props, payments & receipts) from the photographer, allowing him/her to concentrate on what they do best. They also provide an extra pair of hands at the airport, hotel arrivals/departures and shifting gear up the mountain for that crucial dawn start.
